Rampura Agucha, Rajasthan | March 25, 2025 — CleanEdge Resources Pte Limited (“CleanEdge Resources” or “CleanEdge”), a leading provider of advanced industrial wastewater treatment infrastructure, waste to energy solutions, and resource recovery solutions, is pleased to announce the commissioning of a Zero Liquid Discharge (“ZLD”) Wastewater Treatment Plant with a treatment capacity of 4 million litres per day at Hindustan Zinc Limited’s (“HZL”) Rampura Agucha mine in Rajasthan — the world’s largest underground zinc mining operation.
The Rampura Agucha mine, recognized as the world's largest underground zinc mining operation, is a testament to HZL's leadership in the sector with an ore production capacity of 6.15 million MT per annum and zinc-lead reserves grading at 15.8%.
The ZLD facility was officially inaugurated on March 25, 2025, by Mr. Arun Misra, CEO of HZL, in the presence of Mr. Raju Shukla, Chairman of CleanEdge Resources.
This first-of-its-kind fully integrated, high-recovery wastewater treatment plant is 100% owned and operated by CleanEdge Resources under a long-term Build-Own-Operate-Transfer contract. The plant has been set up on HZL’s premises, with CleanEdge responsible for the design, execution, funding, and long-term operations and maintenance of the facility. The integrated plant combines the technical knowhow of the CleanEdge team with advanced equipment packages manufactured in Germany, Israel, and India.
This ZLD facility aligns with HZL's broader sustainability objectives, including achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 or sooner. The company has been recognized as the world's most sustainable company in the metals and mining category by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024.
Mr. Arun Misra, CEO of HZL, commented on the initiative, stating,

We have introduced zero liquid discharge system in almost all our plants but this is the first time in an underground mine of this caliber. I am very proud of our project team as well as our mining team at Agucha who have ensured that this plant has been commissioned very smoothly and the output that has been given, we have seen that the quality of water is as good or much better than what we usually use for drinking water.”
